Gorndorf - Texas

Gorndorf - Texas tells stories about wild west enthusiasts pursuing their American Dream in Germany’s eastern states. In the dreary and decaying concrete landscapes of the former Eastern Bloc, people live out their roles as cowboys, Indians and pioneers. Fascinated by the southern states of North America, they spend their time in the saddle, around the campfire and with line dancing. The constructed reality of the United States as the promised land is rather a remain of German Democratic Republic socialist culture than a new phenomenon. Since the 1950s, GDR citizens dreamed of the vastness of the prairie - and lived in a reservation of a different kind. The project is touching upon issues of escapism, nostalgia, and the longing for the wild west in today's German East with Gorndorf taking the center stage.

Though he dreamed of retiring there, he finds the village changed. Both the socialist era and the recent civil war left marks on Ruda and its people. As Dujo reconnects with old friends, he faces both serious and humorous moments, reflecting the complex reality of Croatia—a place caught between disillusionment and hope for a European future.▷ Trailer
